Hello everyone, I am Wally, a blogger with extensive experience in the production, technical management, and sales of protective films. I am skilled in providing customized solutions based on customer needs.

PE shrink film does more than hold your product together — it is a mobile billboard on every pack that leaves your factory. Custom printed shrink film turns a plain clear bundle into branded packaging that builds recognition at the point of sale, whether that is a supermarket shelf, a warehouse pallet, or a distribution center.

Why Print on PE Shrink Film?

Clear PE shrink film gets the job done functionally. But when your product sits next to competitors on a shelf, branded packaging is what makes it stand out.

Printed PE shrink film lets you:

  • Display your logo and brand colors on every multipack
  • Show product information, volume, and barcode
  • Run promotional graphics for seasonal campaigns
  • Differentiate your product in a crowded category
  • Create private-label packaging for retail partners

Printing Technology: Gravure Printing

PE shrink film is typically printed using rotogravure (gravure) printing, a high-volume process that delivers:

  • Sharp, consistent image quality across long production runs
  • Vivid color reproduction
  • Good ink adhesion on PE surfaces
  • Consistent registration at high press speeds

We support up to 7-color gravure printing on PE shrink film. This covers most branding needs including process colors (CMYK) plus spot colors for brand identity.

What Can You Print?

Common print applications on PE shrink film include:

Print Element Purpose
Brand logo Brand recognition
Product name and description Product identification
Volume / quantity information Regulatory and retail requirement
Barcode / QR code Inventory and checkout
Promotional graphics Seasonal campaigns, new product launches
Warning / handling labels Industrial and export packaging
Manufacturer / origin mark Traceability

Design Considerations for Printed Shrink Film

Printing on shrink film is not the same as printing on a flat label. The film shrinks 15–30% in the tunnel, which affects how your artwork appears after shrinking.

Key design tips:

  1. Account for shrinkage — Artwork that looks stretched before shrinking will look correct after. Work with your film supplier on the recommended artwork scale.
  1. Keep critical elements away from seals — The seal area and side fin zones should be kept clear of logos and barcodes.
  1. Barcode placement — Place barcodes on the flattest, most stable area of the bundle. Test scanability after shrinking.
  1. Color matching — Provide Pantone references for brand colors. A print proof or test run is recommended before full production.
  1. Text legibility after shrink — Thin lines and small text may distort during shrinkage. Keep minimum text size and line thickness in mind.

Printed vs. Unprinted: Cost vs. Value

Printed PE shrink film costs slightly more per roll than plain film due to the print cylinder setup and additional process steps. However, the marketing value on every pack often justifies the cost — especially for:

  • Beverage brands competing for shelf space
  • Private-label products where the pack IS the brand
  • Promotional or seasonal campaigns
  • Export products where brand recognition drives repeat orders

Minimum Order Quantities

Printed runs require cylinder preparation and setup time. MOQs for printed film are typically higher than for plain film. Contact us with your artwork and required quantity to get a specific quote.

For smaller runs or new product testing, we can recommend plain film with a label or sticker application as a lower-cost alternative.

From Artwork to Finished Roll

Our printed film process:

  1. Artwork review — We check your design for shrink compensation, seal zones, and print feasibility
  2. Proofing — A test print can be produced for color and registration verification
  3. Cylinder preparation — Engraved cylinders are made for each color
  4. Printing — Multi-color gravure run on the printed film line
  5. Slitting and rewinding — Film is cut to your required roll width
  6. QC inspection — Color density, registration, and ink adhesion are checked
