Why PVC Floors Need Special Protection

PVC floors, including LVT (luxury vinyl tile) and SPC (stone plastic composite), are installed in some of the most expensive projects in the world: hotels, offices, showrooms, and homes. Their surface finishes are decorative and surprisingly easy to damage. Dust, grit, scaffolding, and dropped tools during renovation can permanently scratch or indent vinyl flooring. PVC floor protection film shields the finished floor until the very last day of the project.

Protecting PVC Floors During Installation

PVC flooring is usually installed first and renovated around. Installers lay protection film across the entire floor area immediately after installation, then carry on with joinery, painting, and ceiling work on top of it. The film absorbs tool drops, paint splashes, and foot traffic, then peels off cleanly to reveal a floor that still looks factory-new.

Key Applications

Renovation Projects

Homes and offices under renovation protect new vinyl floors while walls, ceilings, and cabinets are finished. Contractors cover 100 percent of the walkable area, including corners and under furniture that will be moved.

New Build Handover

Developers protect show apartment and model home floors until the buyer takes possession. Film with printed instructions or logos adds a professional finishing touch.

Commercial Fit-Outs

Retail stores, restaurants, and offices often install floors weeks before opening. Protection film keeps them pristine through furniture delivery and final cleaning.

Choosing the Right Floor Protection Film

Floor protection film must lie flat without adhesive that could react with the PVC surface. Use a self-adhesive film with light-to-medium tack on the edges, or a non-adhesive static film across the full area. The film should be tough enough to withstand foot traffic and small tool drops: 0.08 mm to 0.12 mm thickness is typical for renovation use. Ask for anti-slip properties where workers will walk on the film daily.

Application and Removal Tips

Sweep and vacuum the floor before laying film so no grit is trapped underneath. Overlap strips by 5–10 cm and press edges firmly. Tape seams with low-tack floor tape. Remove the film by peeling at a shallow angle within the supplier-recommended period, ideally within 30 days for most grades.

FAQ

Will floor film damage new vinyl? No, when the correct low-tack or adhesive-free film is used and removed within the recommended window. Always test on a sample area first.

Can the film be walked on? Yes, renovation-grade floor film is designed for daily foot traffic. Choose an anti-slip grade for safety.

How long can the film stay on? Most grades handle 30–60 days indoors. For longer protection, request extended-life film with stabilized adhesive.
