Canned beverages (beer, soda, energy drinks) require a slightly different film specification than bottled water. Here is why.
Why Cans Need Different Film
Cans are rigid and cylindrical. Unlike PET bottles, they do not have curved surfaces that the film can grip tightly. The film must:
- Shrink evenly around the cylindrical shape
- Hold cans securely without crushing
- Look clear and retail-ready
Recommended Specification
| Pack Type | Thickness | Width |
|---|---|---|
| 4-pack cans | 45-55 microns | Custom |
| 6-pack cans | 50-60 microns | Custom |
| 12-pack cans | 50-65 microns | Custom |
| 24-pack cans | 60-75 microns | Custom |
Common Issues with Can Packaging
Wrinkles on the sides — Cans have flat tops and bottoms but curved sides. Film width and tunnel settings need tuning for even shrinkage.
Loose cans — If film shrink force is too low, cans shift inside the pack during transport.
Crushed can tops — Excessive shrink temperature or over-thick film can deform can lids.
Printing
Many beer and soda brands print their logo and graphics on the shrink film. We support up to 7-color gravure printing.
Sample Testing
Can packaging is sensitive. We recommend testing a sample roll on your specific can size and pack configuration before bulk orders.
